Local Residents Join Struggle for Environmental Justice

They met monthly in Southwest Detroit, spending their first months in cohort learning about toxic contamination, and eventually collaborated to take action for environmental justice.

Internet is like water, says Violeta Ramirez in Spanish. “It’s that important.” But three years ago, her tap ran dry. In Southwest Detroit, where high rates of poverty persist, it’s not surprising that residents are struggling to pay for internet.
