My sister went there until the 6th grade, and our family moved to Dallas. I remember too well my days there, my teacher Mr. Bend, and the toys we had. I remember a conversation with him, and even how he had misspelt my name on the first day of school. I remember walking down the steps and waiting for my sister and my mom. I remember my first day and how I kept running back after my mom. I graduated college this past December and I flew to Detroit to see my family and my old places. When I got to McMillan, my heart broke. It's now a field of grass. I couldn't believe it was all gone, a part of my childhood I will never get to relive. It's so awful what has happened to Detroit. MY NIECE WAS A PART OF THE HIGHLAND PARK SCHOOL POLAR BEARS BAND. I HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. I DON'T GO OUT THAT MUCH, AND I WASN'T PLANNING TO GO OUT TODAY, HOWEVER I AM SO GLAD I DECIDED TO GO. It is admirable for the Police to listen to the "voices of the streets" and err on the side of public safety by altering parade routes, and at times shutdown the festivities early.It is my position that the public has a very keen ear to hear the "voices" as well and through Police and citizen involvement better deal with the potentially negative factions. This is the thoughts of many presented by one; lets take it to heart and incooperate our resources to enhance this wonderful time and event!
